|Sixth Week of Spain+ Switzerland|Travel Diaries

Hey There!!

Welcome to my sixth week in Spain and I visited Geneva, Switzerland!

Feb. 6

This day was probably one of my favorite nights in Spain. My friend and I are really big FC Barcelona fans. The day before we were talking about going to a game together but we weren’t show. She happened to go visit the stadium for fun and left with tickets to the game!!

We got tickets for the Barcelona v. Real Madrid game which is their biggest rivalry in the league!!

We were so surprised that we got tickets so last moment since this game got sold out in the end and we got very good seats for it too!

Even though we are so invested in the team we did not know any of the chants or songs because they were all in Catalan but hearing the whole stadium sing was so fun and we were really proud to be apart of it.

It was also pretty awesome to see the players obviously hah, they are so talented wow. D1CF47EA-D69A-42A5-9375-F9B8750E40C5.jpg

Okay I have no idea what I did this day sorry!!

Feb. 8

I slept over my friend Sophie’s apartment because we left for Geneva, Switzerland very early this morning!!

We got to fly over the Swiss Alps and they are absolutely stunning!

The city was super cute overall but Switzerland is soooo expensive! Three days there was enough for my bank account!

We went to see the first Red Cross Hospital which is now a museum, the UN HQ which was cool because my aunt works at the one in Manhattan which I have already seen.

Overall the weekend we spent there was freezing but it was hard to stay inside and keep warm! We spent a lot of time by Lake Geneva and saw the clock tower and a ton of swans!

We tried Swiss Chocolate which is as good as everyone says it is!

At the end of the day we were so exhausted but it was a fun day of adventuring.

Feb. 9

We started off the day going to this little town called Carouge and it was so cute!! We checked out their farmer’s market which was so local I loved it!

It was a very pretty but very small town so we were only there for about an hour and we headed back to the main part of Geneva.

We looked at the Jet d’Eau which is one thing Geneva is famous for but contrary to popular belief they do not keep it on all the time so make sure you see when its on!!

We then went to a church that had a really great view of the city!

There is also the longest bench that apparently is approved in the Guinness world records which we saw and its pretty long!

There was a snowboard tournament happening under us so we stayed a little to see that which was cool since there are like no winter sports where I am from in the States.

At this point we basically did everything we wanted to do so we walked around found another museum and a cute church and walked around waiting for our dinner reservation for fondue!!

We went to a place called Bains Des Paquis which was really good and recommended by locals but the system there was so odd. It was a very stressful experience even though the fondue was good so I guess it was okay haha.

Feb. 10

We had a semi early flight home so we did not really do anything for our ‘last’ day in Geneva but overall it was a fun time!

When we got back to Barcelona I chilled a bit then went to Mass at the Cathedral in the evening.

It was a very beautiful Mass and I think that is going to be my go to church from now on!

After Mass right outside there was a festival happening with a band and so many people dancing a traditional Catalan dance for the Feat of St. Eulàlia which is Barcelona’s Patron saint.

There was also a farmer’s market with traditional Catalan food and goods.

I really thought this was it for the festival but I was wrong!

There was also a parade of the tall giants happening in the main streets which I was extremely surprised to see because it looked very random even though I am sure there is a reason for them!

This was a very unexpected eventful night if I do say so.

Feb. 11

Lol I have no pictures or recollection of what I did this day either hah.

Feb. 12

With my architecture class we went to the Cathedral of Barcelona because since it is the feast week fo Saint Eulàlia her crypt is in the bottom of the Cathedral and they open it up on on Feb. 12! This perfectly collided with our class! We went to go visit it and stayed for a service where monks sang and prayed in devotion to her and in behalf of Barcelona.

It was so cool to see a city so devoted to this saint even though most of the population in Barcelona is not religious.
